Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!
80th Anniversary of the Siege of Tobruk – World Reunion - Brisbane 9th -11th April 2021

Presented by the Descendants of the Rats of Tobruk Australia Association Inc, the 80th Anniversary Reunion weekend was the vision of our former Patron Gordon Wallace, for Veterans and or their descendants to attend a gathering of the ‘RAT’ family from around the globe. Sadly, our overseas colleagues will not be able to attend at this stage due to COVID restrictions.

We encourage all descendants of Rats of Tobruk to take this 80th Anniversary opportunity to come together with other descendants to share history, memorabilia, meet up with other families and remember our loved ones who served their country well, or find family members of Veterans from the same Units.

We believe there are only around 17 living Rats of Tobruk, and given their age, we appreciate that most will not be able to travel. We have, however, made contact with most and will at least be able to include biographies and photos in our weekend program booklet.

To be part of this big weekend, you will need to register. Your registration fee of $100 covers the Remembrance Dinner (pre-dinner drinks and nibblies with 2 course dinner), a Welcome Pack containing your weekend program booklet, name tag, any pre-purchased tickets to Dinner, Meet’n’Greet and Fond Farewell, and any merchandise you have pre-ordered! This also covers a seat at the Commemorative service, which will only be available to registered Reunion participants! Others, including public can attend the Commemorative service, but it will be standing only.

We have only charged a basic fee to cover costs, with additional activities, merchandise and your beverages optional. You can choose what you wish to purchase!

There will be several time slots for you to register on arrival, which will be in the Meeting Room downstairs at the Redlands RSL.(times will be advised closer to the weekend). We need to know you are here, and ensure you collect your Welcome pack, pre-purchased tickets and merchandise.

What to expect - Highlights of the weekend program –
-
DOTROTA are proud custodians of 4 x 3.4 banners from the 5000 Poppy Project. This fabulous Poppy Banner display will be at the Alexandra Hills Convention Centre at the Dinner. These Poppy panels were originally part of the display at Federation Square Melbourne and at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2016. DOTROTA has added to the display 14,000 ID tags, one for each RAT of Tobruk!
-
At the Remembrance Dinner – don’t miss the great display of Tobruk Memorabilia, The Royal Australian Navy Band, Special guests, Amazing Auction – you won’t believe some of these items! 80th Anniversary Raffle Draw, Great presentation sharing with you a glimpse of life in Tobruk, and we may even be lucky enough to have a living Rat of Tobruk joining us!
-
We will also be launching the Photo Tribute Book – Faces of Rats VOL 1 with 2000 photo tributes which our researchers have compiled in the last 12 months. Some copies may be for sale on the night.
-
Our Commemorative & Memorial Service features Rachel Bostock on violin, Voices of Birralee choir and some special guests. There will be an Official wreath laying during the service, but also an Open/Public wreath laying segment toward the end of the service. If you wish to bring a wreath to lay for your loved one, this is the time to do it, and don’t forget your wreath!
-
At the service, you certainly won’t miss the almost 5000 poppies and ghostlike soldiers climbing the slope alongside the Cenotaph at the Anzac Centenary Park. The idea came from the 5000 Poppy Project originally on display in London, Cobber Memorial in Fromelles, France and Federation Square , Melbourne.
-
At registration, you will check in and collect your Welcome pack and any pre-ordered Limited Edition items. You will also be able to purchase any remaining 80th Anniversary Limited edition items, along with a small supply of DOTROTA items normally carried in the Q Store on the website. EFTPOS facilities will be available. As all stock is in limited supply, we cannot guarantee we will have what you want on the day, so do suggest you pre-order these items when you register online. You will then be able to ‘grab your registration bag and go’.
